1/2 Cover for Top Down?
« on: January 17, 2024, 22:47:28 »
Hi, I dont even know what to call this or if it was a custom item.  I love these cars because it is what I learned to drive in... a long long time ago.   My father drove one for many years. he worked close to home and garaged it at home, so he never felt the need to put on the hard top or even put up the soft top.   But he wanted to keep it sort of covered at work.   He had this cover that was snapped on and covered the car flat from Dash to Boot.  You could even just unzip down the middle to drive the car and leave the rest covered?  I have never seen one again?  Was this a custom thing?

You still have all the snaps in place on the body?  Search this forum for "Tonneau".

Sounds like your father had a tonneau cover made: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=300.0.

Oh I wish.  No my dad sold his to a neighbor who then sold it to someone who took it back to Germany.  This is different car, automatic too.  His was a Manual...  Couldn't pass this one up when I found it in a neighbors garage.

One of our former members, Roman Bartl, used an R107 cockpit cover in his Pagoda. I think this may be similar to what you seek. I have one, but never used it.

I have a 1970 280SL and I too wanted to keep top in boot when traveling in the summer and overnighting at hotels. So I did purchase a MB cockpit cover for the 107 body. It fits perfect. I would also suggest this option for you Pagoda. Bob

How/where can you buy original MB cockpit cover for R107?

Pawel, I can get you the MB part number if you have patience. I don't know if it is still available. The part is in the box but presently a bit inaccessible; hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

Does not work in the system. I sent a query to the dealer, we will see.

Thanks again for your kind attention!

California car covers do one of those - perfect when parked, but a true tonneau could be sued when driving, with just an opening for the driver

Yes, a tonneau is used when driving.  Lots of metal snaps drilled into the sheet metal. The car cover, or cabin cover, is used when parked.

I purchased a cockpit cover my 1968 280SL (as well as one for my 1966 Corvette) from Covercraft. Both fit and function well.

Hope this helps.

I keep this one in my trunk for the times I'm parked in the hot sun or under trees. I cannot recall who makes it but its similar to Thy306's above. Very lightweight.
