Can a Getrag 262 gearbox be used
« on: November 24, 2023, 17:08:42 »
Sorry
Me again!

I’m mindful that folks are kindly advising that I need the BMW Getrag 265/6 for my 5 speed conversion

However, I’ve seen gearboxes advertised as 262 but still fitting the same BMWs , ie E12 and E24?  Indeed they are advertised as 265/262 but stamped on housing is 262

Would these be suitable?

Merc Girl,
I have done the conversion on my 250SL auto. I used the 265/6 gearbox, which is the 5 speed overdrive transmission and I looove it. I have another spare and thinking of fitting it in my E Type.
The 265/6 has a removable bell housing, which is the one you want. Make sure that the 262 have the removable bell, which I doubt.
The Getrag 265/5 also have a removable bell housing BUT it is a close ratio box, not the overdrive unit. Which is useless for our cars.
The markings and numbers on these transmissions are very difficult to grasp. Contact me direct and I will mail you photos of the Getrag 265/6
Regards
Chris
