SOLD: 1967 230 SL Body Shell
« on: September 20, 2023, 17:28:53 »
Hi,

Selling this body shell, to include the pagoda top, $9,000. Previous owner decided to buy a different 230 SL instead of investing in restoring this one, but he's keeping the parts as spares. To justify the asking price, I used previous sales of tops, hoods, and trunk lids, then added a little for the rest of the body.

Will sell on a bill of sale, no title, since New York (where previous owner purchased) doesn't issue titles for cars older than 20 years.

The bonnet, deck lid, and pagoda top are all in fair shape with only a few small dents. Also looks like someone installed an antenna in the trunk lid at one time. See the pictures for details.

Thanks.

That's a great looking showroom you have there!  Lots of nice cars.

I would imagine it would make most financial sense to use this for parts/panels.  But, if anyone is interested in using this to build their own Pagoda, and would want to be historically correct for this shell:
- left hand drive, manual transmission
- metallic blue body and hard top
- both tops included from factory
- Becker Mexico LMKU radio
- No power steering (?)
- Germany delivery, so Euro style

Would have been a great looking car when new!

Thanks Rodd... our showroom has been turned into a "waiting room". Everything in there is waiting to go into the shop area for work/restoration. We've done a couple of 280 SL's and know these cars pretty well. This one would make a great jump start to a project car. At least there's no "unknowns" relative to the metal work.

Seeing that shell with all the nasty bits exposed - it really doesn't look that bad to me compared to what I have seen offered at a few car dealers.  That price seems more than reasonable if you were into that sort of thing.   (My wife reminded me that I'm not into that sort of thing anymore)
