Shipped this 1970 280SL from LA to UK. Requires full restoration, after I complete the restoration on my 1960 190SL, which is at paint stage.

Wow. Looks like a lot of work, how long do you think it will take you?

Car picked up with boxes full of almost all parts. Any thing that is missing normally needs to be renewed or re chromed and lights/bumpers will be converted to European spec, so not too much of a problem.
I should complete the restoration by August!! Which year?? well your guess is just as good as mine. The good news is that there is no rust!! a true Californian rust free !! if there ever is such a thing!!
Plan not to start on 280SL until I complete my 190SL see www.190sl.co.uk website of my 190SL restoration. A full restoration is not for the faint hearted but does require patients. I like to get things right first time rather than rush to complete.
I am looking for the best workshop/maintenance manuals in order to assist in the restoration. I understand that there is a CD with a combination of manuals. Does any one know the source of these and what best to buy.

There are a number of different manuals available. I have used e-bay to find some of these, Glenns, Hayes, are a couple. The BBB, or Big Blue Book, also shows up on e-bay on reasonable basis. MB also offers some of the original maintenance manuals, on CD. I have the two CD manual, Early Model Years, Volume 4, that covers the 300SL, 190SL, 230SL, 250SL, 280SL and 600. The part number listed on the back is P-2700-EV4-000 Version 1.0 (http://www.mbusa.com, 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES)
