230 Trunk lid will not open
« on: June 11, 2023, 17:17:37 »
I have a '66 230, the trunk will not open.  Is there a way to open the lid? The barrel pushes in but it will not release.  It has been working along.

This is probably a stupid question, but are you sure it's not locked?

If it is locked and you are unable get into your trunk it could be that the push pin has fallen off of your lock. I have a way to get into locked trunks so PM if you need help.

You should PM Dan (BenzDr); he may have a way for you to open it.

Just a couple of thoughts:

There is license plate illumination on the underside of the license plate "cove" adjacent to the trunk latch button.  After removing the clear plastic lens and the bulb (and disconnecting the battery!), is there any access to trip the mechanism from that point?

Inside the soft top compartment there is a 2–3-inch round hole at the center of the rear wall that may give a little access to the trunk area.  It there a way to trip the mechanism from there with a length of rod?
