I have the original Bosch horns and about to embark on cleaning many years of road grease and grime from them. Does anyone have an underbody photo of the correct ‘concourse’ placement of the horns when I have refurbished them? Anything to watch out for as I am always willing to take the sage advice of those who have pioneered before me.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you WRe.

Wow, that is the gold standard for a clean car! Is it true that all model W113’s had their horns placed in the exact same spot?

Thanks Rodd. Indeed yours are living their best life! It looks like there is more than one way to connect them to the main chassis.

Hi Dave,

I did research on these for my 230 with power steering as well. Thought I was missing one bracket but at the end concluded it was original and correct the way I had them.

Here’s a bit more on the topic https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=31075.msg225536#msg225536

This is how they’re in my 230..

fin230sl, that looks like it just rolled off the production line! Wow, just wow. I have refurbished the horns and it looks like the brackets in my car mirror those in yours. Thanks for the confirmation.

Just mine is more reflective of 60 years of dirt and grime…….

Thanks Dave. Good to see a confirmation of the same setup. Dirt and grime or no, they all look nice  ;)

Dave check this thread it out too, I don't have a definitive answer, this is for the early 230sl RHD re the left side horn placement and I think it also depends if the car has power steering and/or perhaps AC

https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=18284.1275

The mounting points are actually different on each side just in case you didn't realise.

R/Joe, thanks for the forum, this is extremely comprehensive on more than just horns! I was not aware of the different mounting point on models, but understood that power steering influences angle of the horns.
So were the mounting points different on each model? Does anyone have photos of this?
I also learnt that you can adjust the tone of your horn by turning the screw (under the sealing wax) on the back of the horn. Also different frequencies for different models.
It also appears that all models had two horns.
This may be old news for the long term owners but there is a science behind every aspect of the car.

No worries Dave, to my knowledge only the early 230sl had a different left hand mounting point (for RHD) but I can't be certain for left hand drive cars
