Removal of Engine Oil Dipstick Tube
« on: March 12, 2023, 16:21:22 »
Hello, I have a 1968 280SL.  It runs well.  But I recently found I have to pull very hard to remove the engine oil dipstick and the upper portion of the dipstick is rusty.  I can feel middle section of the tube is very tight. is this due to rust or collection of oil sludge?  Is there a way to remove the tube and clean it?    I did not see a bracket on the tube to fix it to engine body. Should I just pull tube upper or turn it to remove?  Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick response.  Can I clean the tube without remove it?  I may use a stick wire brush to get rust or sludge off, but debris will fall into the oil tank.  I can change oil immediately, will this hurt engine?  Are there any other advices on how to clean the tube?
Thanks again!
