Original Color Code
« on: March 08, 2023, 17:39:01 »
Hi,
I recently purchased a 1971 280SL, the current color is grey, which I believe is not the original color. Does anyone know how can I find the original color code? Although am not having any data card or car history.

Hi,
there is a paint number plate in your engine bay. Use search function.
e.g. https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=23916.msg171264#msg171264

In the engine compartment, there is a metal plate on the driver's side by the top of the strut tower. Post a picture of it, and we will tell you the original colors.

Sooooo ........ is your car currently painted 158, or some other shade of gray?  My hub caps and hard top are 158.  It's a nice color.

Currently it is a grey shade, but I think I will be going with the original 158.

Looks like it might currently be 173G Anthracite gray or ever 190G Graphite gray

Yes I believe it is.
I only have one doubt though since the paint is not in a good quality, shall I go with the original color or keep it as is  :-\
Thinking of it in the long term.
