1970 280SL points interchange 062 & 067 Distributor?
« on: March 05, 2023, 16:17:20 »
I purchased points for my 280SL with an 062 aluminum distributor and received points that appear to be correct for the later 067 dist.  The Bosch number I received is 1237013082-850 which physically appear to be the same as the points I removed, but the Tech Manual shows 1237013059 for my 062 dist.  Does anyone know if these points will interchange?

Dear BHap

I think as both contact points have physically same dimensions, as quoted by you, they will do the job.  It is just a matter that when installed you check that the central distributor cam lobe is able to open and close them freely.

The contact point are just a switch for high current passing.  I does not matter if that part number does not match what your manual says about the contact point that should be used.  Parts evolve with time, the correct part number when your service manual was written could be different of the one that superseded it along more than 60 years.

Best regards
