Welcome New Member, OC Tiger

I meant 400K+ was reportedly spent on the restoration.  Said I paid north of 200K.

CA DMV says it's a '68.  I know it really is a '67.  ;)

I remember talking to Gary Jarvis in San Diego Pagodafest about this (his) car.  He was very proud of it and talked it up big time on how much he had spent on its restoration over a number of years and how he had spent way more than he should have in getting it to a No.1 car. Brian Peters was in the background even then wanting to sell it.

Don’t think the OP was suggesting that he had paid the $400+k but that was up toward what Gary was saying he had spent over the years.

I took the liberty of splitting this topic into two; originally it was our relatively new member, OC Tiger, asking about Unique Cars of Palm Beach and then there was a diversion to the Pagoda he bought.

Welcome, Dean! a/k/a OC Tiger!

There are only a small number of very unique Pagodas out there, and ones with a special kind of provenance. The one owned by John Lennon, the one at Graceland owned by Elvis, the one that sold last year that was briefly owned by Sir Stirling Moss, the Pininfarina coupe, etc. Here in the USA, the one owned by Gary Jarvis was fairly well known, at least in California circles. One common thread that all the "special" Pagodas have, is that we don't often hear anything about them here; the owners are not members. So in that respect, it's a welcome thing to have you as a member of SL113.org. Under normal circumstances the new owner of such a car would simply fade away and we'd hear nothing about it until the car came up for sale again.

You are among friends here, long time owners, enthusiasts and aficionados of the model and marque.

If I'm not mistaken, the MBCA Star Magazine had a good article on this car when Gary Jarvis owned it, sometime in the past few years. If you have seen this article great; if not let me know and I'll try and dig up a good PDF copy for you.

Michael, you are right. What make those Pagodas, (that you mentioned), unique, is the ownership provenance. There's nothing unique about them automobile-wise, except for the Pininfarina coupe. The Sarasota Car Museum had Lennon's car for years. It was not in the best of shape and the asking price was in the $450K range. I had seen the car a few times and was not impressed. I don't know who bought the car, but it was going to take a lot more $$$$ to get the car where it should have been for the ridiculous $400K+ asking price.
