Hood buffer
« on: December 29, 2022, 13:52:41 »
Hi all, does anyone have one of these bonnet buffers for sale, I am looking for the original square style one.
Many thanks.

This may not be that useful given you are UK based, but maybe to others.

I tried the part offered on the Authentic Classics website but it didn't last long, the 'groove' seemed a little too narrow and so the pieces would wriggle free and pop off.

I ended up buying it from MB Classic Center for $25 (000-987-50-70 "Seal"), which I cut to size and appears to be a much better fit.

Hope that helps a little!

Hello, i just bought a length of the square profile from this company, i don't know how it compares to the "original" as i didn't have any to compare it with, but it fits ok and hasn't moved since i fitted it, can't remember what size i ordered, best to measure the ones you have and see what's closest

The original product had three slight ridges on top.  The replacement product lacks them. Unless you get out a magnifying glass it’s virtually indistinguishable.  The original and replacement from the Classic Center is more squared off than the example shown by BobH.

Thanks for the suggestion, I am hoping that some one may have an original one  lying about as of what's been said about the lines on the top to match the 2 original one present on the car.

Good luck on that effort! Over time, heat from the engine literally bonds the rubber to the metal track making them impossible to remove without destroying.   I had two original and the third was missing. I just replaced the missing one.  Really tough to spot the difference between originals and replacement.

Never seen these before on any Pagoda.  Are these original on all Pagodas? Euro cars as well?

Interesting. The reason I asked if all Pagodas have them is that I have never seen them on a UK car.  Even top restorers like the SL shop who will charge $300k or more for a car - fully restored - don't have them.   EG:

The photo of the vin plate doesn't show any.  (guess it could be out of shot? )

Plenty of restorers miss them, but all cars had them when they left the factory.  The rubbers on the bonnet/hood torsion bar also regularly get missed

The SL Shop car has two buffers fitted, far left, by the fuse box, and far right, but missing the ones in the middle, and no torsion bar rubbers from what i can see

A small dab of weatherstrip glue will keep the hood buffers in place.

The two small circular rubbers on the hood rod are the same as the small circular rubbers used on the rear axle brake lines (and are held i place by a "cotter key" band). Part book has it listed under the brake lines charts. Part number 110 428 01 01

Same approach for the hood rod, a small dab of weatherstrip glue will hold them in place.
