Would Anyone know if...
« on: November 06, 2022, 23:41:53 »
... there is any publication anywhere or a way to find the number of cars made by Color and/or Interior Combinations?   We see many color combinations but it would be very interesting to see some table or listing of colors etc and which is most popular or maybe the least popular?

E.G: is White the most common or is black as favorite UK color etc?

Anyone know of any magazines or publications that attempted to address this?

German Pagoda club put out a reprint of the factory booklet that has the color charts, the color combinations, top colors etc.

If you register on this club you should get access to volumes of information, manuals etc, including the reprint of the "Equipment Manual Type 113 74", which is the colour code book

I find it quite difficult to navigate around the site, but this could just be me, so good luck

Than you both for responding to my inquiry.

Unfortunately I wasn't very clear with my post. We are very lucky to have a wealth of info available to us including in the Tech Manual -like the paint codes etc.

My question was more related to popularity of color or purchaser requests.  Not sure if it even exists but some type of summary of the most common color combinations bought or owned.

An example:  I have owned my Pagoda for over thirty years and I have yet to see another DB571 in person anywhere.- which is why I am asking about color choice and popularity

Hope that's a little clearer.  Thanks again

I may be wrong, but i think that's a big ask, and could only come from DB archives, from the list of data cards issued?

If you search the members registry, which is obviously only a tiny representation of cars registered, and i haven't counted the full list, but DB571 only shows up for 5 cars, whereas silver accounts for about 90 odd, albeit some are silver blue or silver grey.

This isn't very accurate as search functions are limited, but if you have trouble sleeping one night, you could scroll through them and compile a list from the most common to the rarest, which might give you an idea

I was feeling bored this afternoon, and the weather wasn't good, so i looked a bit deeper into this

Out of the approximate 800 cars registered on the forum, that have colours shown, the split is very, very roughly as follows:

White or white variations - 210
Red or red variants - 98
Blue - 93
Silver or silver variants - 90
Green - 39
Beige - 32
Brown - 24
Grey - 22 (very surprising)
Black - 12

The remaining either have numbers i don't recognize, or a colour name that i'm not familiar with

Wow, interesting statistics, and ones which I am sure will lead to more questions from members,  Of course there are "many" reds and variants

Thank you for taking the time to research.  Much appreciated (hope the weather clears)

Interesting results

White or white variations - 33.9%
Red or red variants - 15.8%
Blue - 15.0%
Silver or silver variants - 14.5%
Green - 6.3%
Beige - 5.2%
Brown - 3.9%
Grey -  (very surprising) 3.5%
Black - 1.9%

100%

Hi, John,

I think you dropped a "3" in the first row of percentages, should be 33.9.

Grey - 22 (very surprising)
Surprising in what way?  You thought there would be more or fewer?

Personally i think these cars look fantastic in grey, particularly flat or solid grey, so i would have thought there would have been far more grey cars ordered

Couple more stats

Copper - 2 x cars = 0.3%
Cinnamon - 1 x car (not sure what colour this is?) = 0.16%

DB571 - 5 x cars = 0.8%

Still surprised you never see another DB571 car?

When shopping for my SL many years ago, I almost bought an early 230SL with exhaust headers that was dark red (maybe maroon?) with a white or near-white interior.  Great looking car!
