RHD 230
« on: October 25, 2022, 19:20:21 »
For sale currently (not by me), 230SL RHD, never seen a handbrake on the right before

Just noticed the battery in the boot, possibly not fixed?  how strange

Nitpicking details: Don't know if the M127 in the 230SL had the emission and timing sticker on the valve cover, in any case, it would be in the wrong location.
..and regarding a discussion in a different thread, here we have a black steering wheel with a white shifter knob.

I think this was advertised by someone else not that long ago, unless this is another 230sl with hand brake moved to RHD?

As they haven’t altered the hand brake lever’s left bias, I’m not sure how the handle fully releases, unless when released the handle remains above the central tunnel. I’m also not sure how they have done this, as my recollection the exhaust system runs to the right of the floor pan, so where is the hand brake cable running?

Also:
 - has mirror on driver’s side sun visor,
- some weird tube hanging down from under the dashboard on the passenger side,
- sound deadening attached on underside of bonnet (hood)
- appears to have battery in the boot (trunk)
- spare wheel appears not to be ‘stored’ anywhere

I have never actually seen a RHD W113 and I am not familiar with them, but how did they handle the throttle linkage? Is there a cable/linkage from the right side throttle pedal all the way to the left side linkage end on top of the engine?

I've never seen a LHD up close, but the RHD cars linkage is shown in these pictures

https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=34734.msg254421#msg254421

As Katie says, how did they manage to move the handbrake over to the right, i wonder what it looks like under the car, not that i'm bothered with mine on the left, being automatic i hardly use it, but i guess if you had a manual car you would use it far more for hill starts etc, perhaps you always take another person with you to act as handbrake operator

And why on earth would you fit the battery in the boot (Trunk)?  Seems like a lot of work, for what reason

I have seen this before and many years ago i think that there was a bit of a write up in the early days on someone doing this but I have not been able o find it.  I believe there was a bit of body work needed on the transmission tunnel to fit it.

At 6ft3, I’m very happy my handbrake is on the other side.

I could only imagine ripping my jeans as I bash my knee on that getting in.

Mercedes designed for a primarily left-hand drive market, so the hand brake is positioned for the convenience of left-hand driving position.  Many British cars, like my MGA and MGB, are designed for a primarily right-hand drive market, so the hand brake is positioned for the convenience of a right-hand driving position.

Gentlemen operating a left-hand drive M.G. or a right-hand drive Pagoda, when reaching across the transmission tunnel to operate the handbrake, may occasionally avail themselves of an opportunity to brush against m'lady's leg . . .  ;^)
