230SL spare parts catalogue
« on: October 22, 2022, 11:54:05 »
Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone may have ‘surplus’ spare parts catalogue hanging around

Given Bessy is one of the earliest pagodas (1963), I believe I am looking for edition A? Maybe with ref number 10 062 on top left

mercedes benz w113 type 230sl
spare parts list
edition A
10 062

I presume this is the right one for the early cars, although certainly it should show the spare wheel as being mounted vertically

Many thanks
Katie

Katie,

The 10062 is dated "As of July 1963" - The last listing for a change (Pagoda Notes Vol 9 No 4) is VIN ending1561.

Edition B is 10097 and is dated "As of November 1964" - It shows the vertical spare footwell, with the footnote that it is up to VIN ending in 7204, you can see the list of changes for 1964 in Pagoda Notes Vol 10, No 1. The last listing for a change is at VIN ending 8513.

If your car is later than July 63, you might want to broaden your search a little. Be prepared, these will not be cheap. There were a LOT of changes being made to the 113 cars in the period from start of production to 1965. Just take a look at Pagoda Notes to get an idea about that.

Hi,
according to Engelen, there were changes in year (approx.):
230SL
- 1963: 120
- 1964: 210
- 1965: 90
- 1966: 30
250Sl
- 1967: 55 (security measures)
280SL
- 1968: 30
- 1969: 30 (US security measures; model year 1970)
- 1970: 25
In total ca. 600 changes.

Thanks chaps

So, from what I can understand from the data card, chassis number ends 003396

Does that mean I need edition B?

Yes, I’ve seen they’re pretty expensive!

Katie,

I would say that Edition B would be the one to try to find.

Thanks Jonny!

Weirdly enough, I was rummaging through the paperwork I got with Bessy, and I do seem to have an edition B

Has all the drawings, but for the life of me I can’t find the part numbers. Was there perhaps an accompanying booklet that went with it?

I see someone has an edition C on eBay. It seems huge compared to my little booklet!?!!

Hi Katie,
The book with the MB part numbers is an inch thick, that’s probably what you saw on eBay. It has the same diagrams and simple part numbers as the thinner book you have, but it cross-references them to a big list of the full MB part numbers in the back of the book.

The book is very useful but I think there are online options too. I  haven’t used those but others can perhaps let you know.
My description of the parts book wasn’t quite right, ,it actually shows all the part numbers immediately following each diagram AND has a big sequential list of numbers at the back, cross-referenced to the relevant diagrams. So you can either find the number of a particular part you need, or, if you have an Unknown part with a number on it, you can find out what it is and where it goes. It also lists RHD/LHD specific parts, how many of each part are required, and superseded part numbers (at the time of printing).

I have a Edition C available it is not in new condition but it is complete, the heading on the front cover says  MERCEDES - BENZ Type 250sl - 280sl  (113), I also have a parts list for the engine, if interested send me a PM.

Thanks Eric

Very kind of you.

I think there were some quite big changes in 250 & 280. As such, I think i will hold off until an edition B pops up.

Take care

The small parts book (should be labeled as 12XXX, where the XXX corresponds to the last three numbers on the big book) came with the car. My understanding is that if you wanted to buy a specific part, you would take the small book to the dealer, and point at the number of the part you are looking for (usually 1-100 or such) and they would look it up in the big book to get the actually inventory part number. The parts department would have a huge library of the big books to cover all the models.

Thank you

All very useful info!

I now know what I’m looking for, which is half the problem solved. 😆

Just need to find 097 now ☺️
