Rubber Boot Trim
« on: October 14, 2022, 22:59:47 »
Two questions please:
1. Anyone have any experience with the rubber boot (trunk) trim from Authentics?  They offer an after market one and a M-B part which is expensive.

2.  What is best used to "glue: the trim in place?

I have an after market one and it is just fine and looks just like  broken and stiff one that was there but i am not trying to win Pebble Beach concourse. It just sits in boot and is not glue down.

Are you asking about the trim piece that goes around the trunk to make the seal with the trunk lid? I am also not clear about Garry's response. The trim around the trunk does need to be glued in place.

Make sure you have it installed the right way as it can be set in place upside down.

Yes, the rubber trim around the trunk "opening" that seals with the lid when closed.

3M makes a weatherstripping glue that works nicely.  I used the OEM rubber but I’ve seen the vintageeuroparts.com one and it looks identical.  Be forewarned that your trunk will require a little extra pressure to close for the first couple of weeks.  After that the rubber compresses a tad making it much easier to close.

Sorry about confusion, I thought you were talking about the trunk/ boot mat that sits on the bottom of the trunk.  It is not fixed but the seal around the edge is.

There is a good U-tube video for glueing the seal. There is a method to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PbKfw8COQs.
Hope this helps. Lee

I also used 3m for the doors but for the trunk I used black silcone as it gives  you time to adjust it. I

I've had good luck with the 3M black adhesive (as seen in the video), but I've found that waiting a bit (10 minutes) will greatly help adhesion. I've also used the "official" Mercedes Teroson adhesive, but it's a bit messier to deal with.
