Ideas for a display poster/plaque
« on: September 26, 2022, 15:30:40 »
Dad and I will be participating in a car next month and it occurred to me that we'll need a poster showing something about our cars (he's got a '54 Healey). We've never been a car show before and I have no idea what to put on a poster. Has anyone got a display poster they'd care to share?  Any ideas about what to put on a poster?  thanks in advance

Before I get to the suggestions - consider that the main reason for going to a car show is to let other folks see your car, see other cars, and have a great time wandering around and talking with people. Enjoy the day and have a fun time.

For the poster, it can be pretty much whatever you choose. Not for our cars (I hope!) but a number of ones I have seen will spell who did the engine, who did the paint, who did the custom work, what type of engine is in the car, and that sort of thing.

For the Pagoda, you could do a short history of the 230 SL, sort of like a lot of ads do - the generic about six cylinder, mechanical injection, designed by, etc. Is the show an "all marques" kind of thing? If there are not many foreign cars, the above information would also be educational.

If it is an original car, that sort of thing. Or if there is anything unusual or interesting about the car, kind of a "prime the questions" conversations starter.

I would not obsess about the poster, and I know there will be some better suggestions, and hopefully a photo or two. I did try the search function, and did not have much luck, so if you want to poke around with that you might find something

I am using a print from a local Swedish price guide of cars (Bilfakta) that was sold in Sweden in 1966/67
It has all the facts and the local sales price of the time.

thanks guys, this is just what I was looking for. Jonny, it will be an "all marques" show as a fund-raiser for diabetes research.  thanks again, Charles

Good luck with the fund raiser Charles, a very worthy cause.

I was on a Diabetes Awareness website the other day and got a ‘Do you accept all cookies?’ pop-up message.

I think it was a test……….

If you can post a photo of what you come up with for the poster.

Also please post a photo of your car at the show - we love to see pictures!

Good luck!

AND - HAVE FUN!

Well, unfortunately I got pushed for time and at the last minute decided on a poster with just the bare essentials: year/make/model (1964 Mercedes 230SL).

Perhaps the most unusual car there was a Singer - I believe the owner said it was a 1947. I'd never seen nor heard of a Singer and at first glance I thought it was an MG.

And some of us complain about either the rarity or price of parts?

In 1974 Automobile Quarterly produced an issue dedicated to the 300 SL using several of my cars for the illustrations and they  produced a poster which was offered for sale for many years.  Problem solved:

That is a 300SL.  Are you offering to make a post for Pagodas?
