280 auto trans shop
« on: September 07, 2022, 14:42:39 »
Greetings all, I’m in north Texas, and am in need of a knowledgeable trans shop to repair a no kickdown issue, and also help with correcting the speedo after changing from 4.08’s to 3.27’s. In reading the forums, it appears there isn’t a gear that’s  able to be replaced to correct the speedo, but only an in-line cable ratio box. Is that the consensus?

It appears that everything external to the trans is operating properly (solenoid, switches, linkage), but the trans will not downshift when floored. It appears the problem lies internally. Another thing of note, the trans will start in first gear only when floored from a stop, and then gets a second gear scratch on the upshift, with a harsh shift, but very early. I’m unable to understand what would make it carry out the gear to around 5k revs or so. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Have you checked the 3 position solenoid and linkage? It is accessed from the passenger side tunnel under the carpet.

Also, when in Drive, it always starts in 2nd gear - that is by design
