multi function / combination switch repair
« on: May 23, 2022, 13:17:26 »
the multi function / combination switch on my 66 sl had cracks on the base where is attaches to the stalk. (all 4 sides)

after reading many posts that said the only option was to buy an expensive replacement i thought i would try to save mine by gluing the cracks.

1. removed the steering wheel
2. applied a bonding promoter to all cracks by rotating the switch.   on mine all 4 sides had cracks, some were worse than others.
3. I used gorilla glue that uses water to cure, this gave me more time to situate the switch.   again rotated the switch and applied
glue to all 4 sides with cracks.
4. positioned the switch where i wanted it in case it gets glued to the stalk.
5. sprayed with some water
6. used tape as a clamp.  starting up on the push in portion and then worked toward the glued area making sure the tape was tight around the areas that were cracked.

this am, removed the tape and the switch was firmly in place.
