Foot dimmer replacement

My foot dimmer switch has gone bust and I'm trying to replace it, but I can't seem to get enough slack in the wiring to make it humanly possible. Anyone have any tips for how to do this in an efficient (and expletive-free) manner?

Hello Lowell,

The foot dimmer switch is attached with two self-tapping screws through the (front) floor pan; you can see the threads (mostly painted) from the wheel well area.
After unscrewing these (might be tight due to body schutz and or little rust) you can move the dimmer switch.
The three wires going to the switch are attached with M4 metric short Philips screws. You can find these behind the little rubber flap on the backside of the switch, which protects the three contacts from "ground" of the floorpan.

The 3 wires (or the piece of loom they come down with) are often hidden behind a piece of floorpan insulation, and you must make the way free (perhaps a bit carefully with a knife) so that you can more the witch and access the three M4 short screws...

Thanks for your very helpful suggestions. You are correct about the wire being behind the insulation pad, but I was able to get just enough slack to access to the three screws. I happen to have a wonderful, stress-saving small screwdriver that has two spring-loaded lugs in it that can hold a screwhead tightly while it's being threaded and that was my salvation. I'm no longer dazzling oncoming drivers at night!
