I had a great laugh when I read that yesterday!

The 914 is a relatively simple car. Too bad the owner is a better writer than mechanic and hasn’t sorted much out on it!

"Simple" is sure relative. Owning a 914-6 (factory M471) I can only say the writer had his "tongue in the cheek". A few things are spot on and aren't really all that easy to fix. The shifter linkage being one of them. A little side note: The 914 with the 4-cylinder engine was called a "Porsche" only in the U.S. The rest of the world called it a VW-Porsche. And that it really was. Unlike the 6, which was finished by Porsche alongside the 911 on the same assembly line, the 4-cylinder cars never saw the Porsche factory and were completely built by Karmann in Osnabrück. They even carry a VIN plate that says "Made by Volkswagenwerk AG"

I bet many of the models maladies and design flaws have been solved over the past 40+ years. There’s no shortage of Porsche specialists, even for this crossover VW-Porsche.

All it takes is money! (…and a copy of Panorama is helpful.)

Curiously the author is in Charlotte…but photos of said 914 are clearly in a winter setting.
