Gear Shifter and Shifter Gate

Some folks there say this type of gate shifter, its gate and, perhaps gear box too were fitted in some US cars towards the end of Pagoda production.

Were they?

Not to my knowledge. I have a 350SL built in Nov '71 and it has the old style chrome shift gate. The R107s didn't change until sometime in '72 - long after the last W113 was built.

That is what I thought. But some guys there claim they have seen several of them... I thought I had better ask.

My 1971 has a R107 shifter knob - which the PO installed. Not original.

I think the Pagoda shifter works the other way round. Park is all the way back, if I remember correctly.

Correct, the pattern is reversed, so I don't think it's possible without a w107 (or other) transmission.

I have a FB account, but don't use it for anything in my life that requires factual information.

The wood tray incorporating the shifter was nicely done and almost looks stock.
It looks like the shifter is raised higher than on the original setup too.

Would a later model MB trans easily fit a pagoda engine ?

When I obtained my W113 it was fitted with a late W108 motor and automatic gear box.  If I recall correctly, to retro fit the original motor and automatic gear box, the propshaft tunnel had to be reshaped (as the W108 gear box was wider and the tunnel had been widened), the gear lever gate opening in the tunnel had to be slightly moved forward and the propshaft had to be replaced. 

The late model W108 automatic gear box would fit the W113 motor itself without any complications, the challenge lies the other necessary modifications.
