MB 123 model 230 not E
« on: March 02, 2022, 21:46:33 »
I was looking at a listing for a 1984 230 sedan with a 4 spd manual trans. The engine has a single carburetor.
I have read that the 230E version of the car is pretty zippy especially with a manual trans. I have never driven one.
How slow is the carbureted 230 in real life? I would buy it as another fun car to help me relive my youth !
Is it comparable to a 300D NA ?
Thanks,

I loved my 230 W123 (Euro). It had plenty enough power and noticeably more than a 300D. Mine also had the single Stromberg carburetor. The 230E is the fuel injected model, also very nice. Carburetor specialists are rare these days, so be especially careful to make sure the carburetor is working correctly. The Stromberg carburetor is dependable and works well normally but may take a specialist to repair it.

Thank you, Joe. i too am a sucker for 123 euros. I drove a 300D 4 sp for 10 years back in the 1990's. Great car. Great character.
Hope the rust doesn't spoil the deal.

Hi Zak,
I had a 123 series 230T and loved it. It was probably not as quick as the TE models but certainly nothing wrong with the all over performance. A few years later we had a 124 series 230TE and the performance difference between the two were not really obvious.
Enjoy.
