Flush cup washers - leather upholstery
« on: February 28, 2022, 02:22:05 »
I know these cup washers are available from a couple of our parts vendors and maybe Mercedes (if I had a part number), but I just could not swallow paying 3 bucks a piece for something that should be pennies — just because.

If someone needs these, they are available for about 8 us$ for a box of 100.    Didn’t know what they were called as cup washers seem to bring up different items.

You can buy them from clipsandfasteners.com directly or they also sell through Amazon.

They are quite perfect - a hair smaller (9.5mm vs 10mm outside dims)than original but not noticeable when looking at actual product.   These are the ones listed for screw size #6.    I also bought a box of number #8 in case I need some for the larger screws. Not sure if I will need these larger ones.

The #6 are also used in the glove box.

Thanks for sharing Kampala. All the screws and washers seem to be overpriced unless we find alternatives, as you have. I'm debating redoing my upholstery myself but I've never done anything like that before.  I'm thinking there must be a hobbyist in the DC area that has done it and give me some hands on guidance.  Free beer - AFTER we finish - LOL. Will follow your progress with interest! Lee

Many of the expensive ones have a chrome finish and why they are so expensive. But that is too pricey for me as well. That is good info to know and have heard of the AUVECO company name. They make thousands of fasteners in the auto industry. AUVECO typically makes inch size parts and not metric. But the #6 is close enough. Another possibility and the ones I used were stainless. Very similar to Chrome and will last forever.  They are #6 screw size as well.

Years back when I was rejuvenating a sports car interior and replacing the rusty old washers with shiny new ones I didn't want the washers to cut through the already compromised material when tightened down so I filled the void on the back side of the washers with a tiny bead of 5 minute epoxy so it wouldn't cut through the material.   I also tried thin o-rings but they tended to pop out when tightening - silicone would have probably worked ok but I have a no silicone rule for cars if possible (painters would understand) - the 5 minute epoxy was the best as I could grind the back flat after it hardened.

We called them finishing washers and the stainless steel were my favorite.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to thank the OP for the info.  Ordered a box of #6, today.

If Amazon won't ship a bag of you, try the actual company.  If they won't ship to you, PM me, and I'll send you a bag.

I used some from the bag I ordered last week, and they look just like the OEM washers.
