New tumbler ... new problem
« on: December 27, 2021, 17:58:08 »
All,

Hope Xmas was good!

Here my (new) interesting problem.

As you might remember I had to replace my tumbler.

Bought a new (expensive) 230sl tumbler with the chrome ring.

Installed it and then turned the key to position 1 (red light in dash is on) then to position 2 and then ignition ...

Nothing ...

No starter engine ...

Took it apart again so I was able to see if I could start the Carr with a screw driver ... Yes this worked ...

So here I am, electricity on the ignition, it starts with a screw driver, but when I turn it past postion 2 nothing happens.

Anybody any experience with this?

Be well,

Bart

Update

When the sh.t hits the fan

1. I tried to refit my old tumbler to see if it would turn "further" then the new one

2. Remember ... the old tumbler is old ... and it broke while I tried

3. So I tried to pull it out of the steering lock

4. ... but then the mechanism inside the steering look came loose

5. And now I can rotate the steering lock axle 360 degrees and I can not push the rotating piece "back in"

6. And the pin does not come out anymore

Shoot (type of "****") ... what to do ???

Sorry to bother you with my dash problems for the last couple of weeks.

Bart

Dear Bart

Merry Christmas.  Sorry but this time I have no experience on the ignition lock assembly unit itself……

Best regards

All,

Good afternoon.

As you saw in the thread I had problems with my ignition.

Bought a new one, build it into the dash, but it stopped turning.

Sent it back to SLS shop and they reimbursed me.

But now I'm without a tumbler ...

Problem is that I can not find a replacement for my w113, 230sl, 1967 in Europe.

Who could help me?

Best,

Bart
