DOUBT BODY DETAIL

GOOD NIGHT FRIENDS.
I HAVE A DOUBT TO COMMENT ABOUT THE BODYWORK OF THE PAGODAS. IS THIS DETAIL OF PILLAR "A" CORRECT FOR ALL THE PAYMENTS OR ONLY FOR THE LATER? THE FIRST PHOTO IS OF A 1964 230 SL AND THE GRAY PAGODA PHOTO IS OF A LATER PAGODA 280SL. I HAVE SEEN ALL KINDS OF PHOTOS AND I DO NOT HAVE IT CLEAR, TO SEE IF YOU CAN REMOVE SOMEONE IN DOUBTS.

I cannot take a photo of mine today but look at this photo from a car for sale on BAT.

This is what that gap looks like on most cars.

My 250sl looks exactly the same .. I guess is a part of the construction of the car

I think perhaps he's not asking about the gap, but about the configuration of the joint between the scuttle and the windshield frame, and whether there should be a ridge (silver car) or no ridge (red car). I don't know what the ridge is, maybe a weld fillet. The other photos suggest most cars don't have such a pronounced ridge. So perhaps the silver car had a new fender welded in. I guess the ridge is of no consequence as long as the chrome fits over it.

I see it now - the ridge.  With chrome removed, mine did not have the ridge.

Looking through previous restorations on the site there is also this photo of a 1965 230 which also has the ridge. I don't know what the ridge is, it doesn't really look like a weld. It might just be an idiosyncratic thing related to the original assembly. This car is Igor's (cabrioletturbo) so maybe he can advise whether it is an original or replacement fender - perhaps a replacement if it needed that much work on the gaps.
