Paint Color
« on: September 25, 2021, 23:12:50 »
This  might be an interesting post for many or maybe some.  MY 230SL is colored DB 571H simply called "Rot Met" -Metallic Red.  I see many who post calling their car many names for "red"  I would be very interested in how many members there are whose car is actually DB571H Metallic Red.

If this post gets a reasonable response, it might be worthwhile to do a survey of member's car colors simply for a "Graph" of color choices, maybe even broken down by model?

John,

You can always set up a poll however there are so many colours, the results may not hold much meaning other than tell you there are lots of reds, lots of whites, lots of blues etc.

I have owned 3 red Pagodas, including a 1970, 571 Red Metallic, a 1968 280SL that was 568 Signal Red, and currently a 1965 519 Light Red 230SL. Interesting that the 519 Light Red is darker than the 568 Signal Red. I like the 519 Light Red the best. Great color.

Mine is 1971 280 in 571 Metallic Red. Never thought I would buy a red car until I saw this in person.

I owned several red cars in my life. My very first car was red and I still have a red Corvette. There are certain cars that NEED TO BE red. Italian sports cars, for example. SLs, not so much. Although the colors do look good.

It would be nice to have an overview of colors of W113s by owners.

I am willingly to try to create some type of form for members to enter their car color but I am bot sure if there is more knowledgeable member to do this or if Board approval would be a good thing to obtain first?  Any opinions out there?

Feel free to try it and i don’t think any of us on the Board object, but with so many colours it will be a major task.

Also note that Achim is working on totally revising the vehicle register into a sortable format at the moment and that will eventually give you that information in detail but that will take some time.
Maybe just a simple poll sorting into the basic primary  colours of red, blue, white green etc is all thats needed at this point.

It is a great idea.
Since long time I am looking for such split of colors.
But until today, unfortunately there is no split for Pagoda or other cars from this period.
I am also interested in such split for the W111 Coupe/ Cabrio.

Ah no, John (M.).   ???
This is not 519, which is much-much brighter.
Yours could be 516 (which is usually a bit darker than yours) or perhaps 501 or something in between. But not 519.
Try to look at a very hidden area, e.g. behind the dash or somewhere under the carpet. There should be remnants of the original paint and what it looked like.    8)

Hi Achim, it's probably the lighting of the photograph that makes the color appear off. Fortunately, there's still some original paint on the car and color is spot on DB519. Photos can be deceptive on color.

The registry is already sortable by colour... but not everyone adds their information in the correct manner.

One of the problems with the old vehicle register was that lots of information was listed differently and thus although sortable, you cannot ensure apples and apples are compared.

Matter of taste, but most reds look great on these Pagodas.
