Good evening,
In my car the hazard warning  relay was on an L bracket under the dashboard, although there is an opening between the light switch of the instrument cluster.
I want to install it there of course.on the attached photo page 15 is the diagram.
three wires (**) go to the original connector and three to the connector indicator switch.
Questions:
-Does the original indicator relay not be used at all?
-Do the 3 wires (**) have to be connected to the connector of the indicator switch (page 14)?
are the 3 other wires connected to the connector of the flasher switch (page 14)?
waiting for jos93

Dear jos93

Only the 6 pin circled in red rectangle should be connected.  The original BLINKER RELAIS is not needed any more if all connections are done properly.

Connections should be as follow:

Pin 30 = goes to constant 12v source even with car on the off position. Take that from fuse no.1
Pin 15= goes to a switched 12 v source like the one given by cable BLACK/RED/GREEN coming from fuse no.5 that goes already to your old can style blinker relais.
Pin 31= that is a ground, brown cable already going to your old can style blinker relais
Pin 54 or also called 49a= To cable BLACK/GREEN/WHITE already present on your old blinker relais.
Pin L= left side blinkers, to cable BLACK WHITEon your steering column switch feed connector
Pin R= right side blinkers, to cable BLACK GREEN on your steering column switch feed connector.

If you want to avoid the soldering and opening of the cable connectors there are already made jumper sub wiring harness that do all that.

Write me by personal message if you need one.

Best regards
L.peterssen

Dear MB Enthusiast

Here some photos of this loom sub harness I mentioned before.

Only two left in stock.

One for a car with 14 pin multi switch steering connector (late late style)

One for an early early car with 8 pin bakelite connector

Will not produce this anymore since connectors are too difficult to source in that size

Best regards
Lp

Sorry, I should have researched it myself, but thought you might just know: the bulbs for the latest type of hazard lights switch - is it 18W front, 21W rear and 2W control lamp? Or is it 21W front?

Pawel:

It will affect in any case the rate at the one the blinker/hazard relay flashes. More load means slower flasher , or longer times between flashes. Low load will translate into faster flash rate (as if you had a burn bulb).

And as only one model of hazard relay is available nowadays from Bosh, I would say without having done a research that 21w bulbs front and rear are ok.

Yes, thank you!

My frequency of flashing now is a bit slow, regardless of 18 or 21W bulbs. I think I am within a norm, but it feels slow.

I was wondering then what was the nominal value for this relay - would it speed up flashing.

Dear Pawel

Just checked some new and used flasher relays I have on my personal stock

One brand WAG and the other BOSH

Both are rated for 4x21W

That means that to be exactly on rated power you have to use

A. 2x bulbs 3watts on the instrument cluster
B. 2x bulbs 18watts on front headlight assembly
C. 2x bulbs 21watts on tail light assemblies

Best regards
