Wood trim on dash
« on: July 27, 2021, 21:40:38 »
Hi everyone
Hoping someone can help out?

I saw an image, which I thought was on our forum, but buggered if I can find it now, which showed the underside of the dash wooden trim which seemed to show felt(?) attached to the high points on the underside.

Does anyone remember that image or have one themselves?
Reason for asking is my wood is to be returned shortly and would like to affix in the correct position before reinstalling

Many thanks once again

There are strips of felt approximately 1/2” wide glued to the beveled underside of each dash trim board.  I think the purpose was to form a barrier between the unfinished bottom of the wood and the leather or MB Tex surface of the dash and to prevent any rattling.  Reproduction pieces lack this felt.  Use brown felt and Elmer’s glue to replicate what was there originally.  This was obviously done free hand from the factory since I could see scissor marks where the felt had been cut. It definitely didn’t look like it was machine cut.

Katie,
I am not sure whether these photos will be helpful. When I replaced the black felt on the wood in the 230SL I did not take many detail photos since the glue remnants showed me were the felt should go. Also not all the edges had felt but were painted black to blend in with the rubber seals around the windscreen.
