Is the steering box adjustable in situ?
« on: July 23, 2021, 15:14:09 »
I had my steering box refurbished recently. Only 51 years old and it started to leak!

The steering is slightly stiffer than before and wonder if the backlash is adjustable in situ?

It is but it begs the question, why should it need adjusting if it's just been rebuilt? A proper rebuild includes setting the friction to factory specs.

Well I'm not sure if it is correct or not. For the past 11 years I have had the car the steering was fairly light, but it was leaking oil and so a refurb was needed.  It now seems slightly stiffer than before.  The original box was 55 years old so probably slightly worn.  So was it too light before or too stiff after?

I'm sure that I have seen where you use a pressure gauge on the steering wheel to work out the pressure to turn the steering wheel but cant find it in the technical area.
