Recommendations for an Injector Tester and a CO Tester
« on: March 17, 2021, 16:46:07 »
I would think that this topic had already been discussed, but not much shows up when I search.

Would love your thoughts and recommendations for a device similar to this:
https://mercedessource.com/store/bosch-mechanical-fuel-injector-mfi-tester-and-cleaning-kit

and a simple CO Tester to help me set up my engine.  Would really prefer EU sources if it can be helped.  Shipping from the US or outside the EU to Italy is insanely costly and time consuming.

Thanks
Hans

Use the Search in the string of items starting with "Home" and use Gunson as the search string. Brand specific yes, but there is a fair amount of information there.

For injector tester I bought a diesel injector tester and a gauge that would clearly show 14-16 bar (diesel gauge has too large scale for that).

Something like this, just different gauge.

Hans,
I bought the the tester from mercedessource. For some reason mine didn't work initially. Ken and his daughter were very helpful and fast with replacement parts to insure everything works as expected. After that, it worked like a charm. IMO, very helpful to rule out faulty or bad injectors when you are troubleshooting.

What scale did you end up using? I just got my tester out yesterday and that 3000PSI is not what I would like to see there. I’ll check what’s out there now that will better suit the application. I may also pick up a new gauge with a larger face as the numbers are getting smaller as the “gauge ages”. 😀

My eyes are good, it is just that my hands are too short...

Enclosed are pictures of my tester. I am very proud of it.

Hans,

I bought a tester on Amazon, there are loads of them listed. It was the same as Wallace Wheeler's from the "Indian Tool Company". It also looks the same as Pawel's.

I just ordered the new gauge online. It will be 600psi scale though. That was the only one I could get for tomorrow. Otherwise a long wait. I’m anxious to do some testing this weekend.

600psi is better than 300psi - you still are able to read when the injectors release the load and you have fewer chances to make the hand "go to the other side" from where there is no return. Sometimes when you press the lever too quickly, the hand may go beyond the upper end of the scale and further pass 0 - then it does not come back...

I can recommend the Gunson CO meter. Have it and it seems to do the job well, at a reasonable price.

It seems to be no longer available.  I checked on Ebay and Amazon.

Search eBay with “Gunson Gas Tester”

Or alternatively get this:

Thanks everybody.  Lots of good information there, but obviously I need to work on my search techniques.
