Brake Calipers Overhaul/Zinc Plating
« on: March 07, 2021, 19:19:50 »
I found this video on one of the fb groups. I find it quite informative.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoDpY0pwIpc

This is for brakes calipers overhaul and zinc plating. i would never do it at home, I am not skillful enough, but many of you could.

I use specialist shop for that (picture of my 190SL enclosed) but it must be fun work if you do it yourself.

The home plating system used in the youtube video is from Caswell, whose products are well respected in the DIY community.  Transporting and using these hazardous materials is a lot more difficult in the EU than in the US, so while I would love to have such a system in my garage, it is easier to find a plating shop and pay them, than to do the plating yourself.

I do my own plating.  It is actually pretty boring work.  I only do it because I don't lose a lot of time waiting for stuff to get done.

I also do my own plating and agree it is boring and somewhat time consuming. But it is easy to do a small batch and get it ASAP. A standard plating batch is $60 here and takes a minimum of two weeks. That is fine for large numbers, but doesn't work for a few pieces.
