Blaupunkt Frankfurt small face radio (230SL/250SL)
« on: February 02, 2021, 02:23:29 »
Selling a Blaupunkt Frankfurt "pinstripe" mono radio (serial number W330683) that came with my 1964 230SL.
Comes with original documents.  Note that the amplifier is attached to the radio with adjustable hinges and does not be mounted on the firewall which makes installation much easier.
Also comes with another set of black inserts to match interior if preferred.
Price for radio (with documents) alone: $350
1. the front cover plate for small face radios: $35
2. original Blaupunkt radio plug (Becker will not fit!): $20
3. rear mounting bracket: $25
Total package: $400 (obo) plus shipping.
More photos to follow.

You might want to state whether or not it is working.  I'm kind of assuming it is, but best to say...

Good point. It worked  when I took it out but I'll hook it up to a speaker and record an audio file.

Prefix "W", correct for 1965/66

I have the same radio in my '67. Not that common and were only seen on U.S. market cars. For the uninitiated, the SW button is for Short Wave.

Just curious, what did you replace it with?

With a very early (A series) Becker Europa TR, also with radio and separate amp in piggyback style.

Thanks Warren!
I'll hook up the radio this evening and record an audio file and mail it.
Do you also need the blue cut-out cover for mounting?

Warren,

I just happened to be scanning through my unread posts and noticed your fun (teasing)picture with the 113. I guess that is a Jaguar, yes?

I also noticed that you have just a couple of posts.

Would be fun to hear some about the car(s) and you - there is a "New Member Introductions" thread under General Discussion, reserved for just that purpose.

Welcome to another Californian! 8)

Warren,
Here is the audio file from the video that I took. The first part is on FM and the after you hear a few clicks I switched to AM but it is mostly static until one station comes up. At the end I pressed one of the FM station and now you can hear a Spanish language station.
The zipped video file is too big (22 MB) to post.

It might be helpful if you can post a photo of the existing radio in your car to check what else you would need.

Hi Jonny,

Thanks for the message....I’ll be sure to post in the New Member section.  I’ve just been a lurker in the technical forum here.

Yup, it’s a 1971 E-type SII coupe.  My brother and I have a bunch of cars together....I tend to lean on the German side, and he on the English side (E-type, XJR, XKR).

Hi Alfred,

Thank you for the sound file.

My 230sl currently has a crappy JVC head unit....definitely not the look I’m going for....though it works quite well.

I know I have to do some research regarding if the area has been cut, plus there could be fit issues.  The car is currently in storage, so I’ll have to get pics tomorrow.

Looks like Hopkin's kid still likes the JVC head, he never came back.

Also now priced individual parts separately, see modified first post.
