I know we all know this, seen it, etc.

But please watch again the first 7 minutes and pay attention to prices Jeremy is mentioning...

To remind you how old we all are, I recorded  that segment on my dvd(r) recorder and a friend and I then worked out how to make a couple of copies (that were multi-region), which we then started mailing to people in this group. You know, physical disc in actual postboxes.
Knowing me I’ve still got a copy somewhere 🤪
I think the owner of the car turned up on here for a bit too.

Edit... oddly, the “star in the reasonably priced car” is Johnny Vegas. I think he is (or was) a neighbour of one Mr Ferns of this parish.

Our search function rocks... https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=1065.msg5166#msg5166

Wow, fun to see a thread from all the way back in 2003! Unfortunately that also means we're now 17 (!) years older ... that is almost how long I've owned my Pagoda.

Yes, and if you turn your attention to prices mentioned by Jeremy (by the way, I hate him for the ML 350 evaluation).... prices growth seems to be as quick as our ageing. For car prices - ok, but the mention of spare parts, cost of engine overhaul....

That 280 sounds fab, and wonder if it has stock springs - very well driven may help but very little body roll.

Looks like it is a virtual drive - background looks like cgi.

I used to base an airplane at Dunsfold aerodrome, which is where Top Gear is filmed, and spent a lot of time there. I still fly there from time to time. The video background strikes me as being somewhat artificial (although pretty good) compared to the actual scenery at Dunsfold

Dieter, thanks for sharing the link. At 1st I thought it was the actual show, but then noticed it wasn't the Stigs's helmet. So, I assume we can pay to drive the track.

Now that is something for your "bucket list"! Ship your 280SL to Europe and do a lap on that track!! Also include some touring??

Sans exhaust perhaps? No 280 sounds like that in real life.

You should hear the Red Rocket running on those early 230SL tuned header pipes. Now that's a gear head sound!

indeed they sound great, better than the V8s imo, though not as good as a 300SL on the Bonneville flats:

That clip of the car being driven around the track is 100% CGI. Amazing what kids can do with a computer these days isn't it!

Coooool!

It is incredible how they do it - see the tail pipe vibrations animated as the car moves!

Wow, fun to see a thread from all the way back in 2003!

Without wanting to blow my own trumpet (ok, a little) how many forums / sites do you know that have gone through two different software systems, and still have all their posts from over 17 years ago intact and searchable?

Hail to the chief technologist of SL113 (as I believe I already did a few months ago)! As a former CFO (also in charge of IT, legal and HR) and later CEO of medium sized organizations, I am quite familiar with the issue of maintaining continuity of operations through system changes, whether to restore, maintain or improve competitiveness, as a result of a merger, or other reasons. Access to historical data is, for an organization like ours that lives on information exchange, nothing less than essential. Bravo and many thanks to Peter!

Peter, As a dinosaur I have no idea how difficult it is to achieve this but I am sure that it is way up there on the scale.

All hail to the sl113 Technologist  :)
