Steering Knuckle Tightening Torques

Gents,

The nut & bolt which connects the outer part of the lower control arm to the steering knuckle.
Should the bolt be torqued to a specific value? I have seen 130ftlb quoted on the forum but that is a lot of torque.

A few posters have asked this before as the info does not seem to be in the BBB. Although 130ftlb was mentioned I couldn't find any reference for the source of this value. It seems very substantial bearing in mind the nut is locked with a cotter pin.

Since the control arm is threaded on both sides, and the lower knuckle is also threaded, I do not see that the torque is critical. Just get the nut tight, insert the cotter pin and it will never accidentally loosen unless you remove the pin and loosen it. The nut on the bottom of the king pin is a critical torque since it tightens the steering knuckle onto the tapered, bottom end of the king pin.

Thanks Joe. That seems like sensible advice and is maybe why the torques are not given in the BBB.
