Sunday Drive
« on: November 08, 2020, 08:58:09 »
Finally got the Pagoda out for a drive after three months Covid lockdown.  Back roads. dirt roads and everything in between.  Summer is finally coming and our State has been Covid free for a week.

What am I missing that one can't take a drive during Covid?  I've driven my vintage cars more because of Covid this summer, it's something to do that doesn't involve social interaction.

John,

Under the lockdown laws after we had a massive rise (750 a day)  in the number of Covid cases in June in a second wave, we initially were not allowed to go more than 5 km from home and then only for medical, buy food or exercise.  After a couple of months of hard lockdown the limit was increased to 25 km but the same reasons.  The capital was ringed and no one was allowed to travel at all out side the city limits into the country without a permit e.g. specific essential work, a medical appointment.  Those restrictions were lifted this last weekend after four months as the number of new infections dropped to zero for a week. Masks are compulsory when out side the home.  Fines ranged from a few hundred for no mask up to $5000 for travelling without approvals. In a population of around 25 million we have had just over 12,000 cases and 1000 deaths. Whether good or bad, it did work.

A lot of discussion on freedom and rights but, Australia now does not now have covid cases occurring in the community other than in those returning from overseas who must do 14 days quarantine in set accommodations and not released unless they test negative at the end of the quarantine period so that they do not take it into the community.

Good to know that things are getting back to normal over there. Nice ride though. I like it.

Garry, so pleased to see you can get out in your Pagoda again! Your country was smart to be so tough. Sure freedoms restricted, but when compared to America we have rising cases and governments are slow to react and put proper restrictions in place. This appears to turning into a big disaster. We should have learned from Australia how to do this!
