How does this end attach? Is it a large hole and a retaining ring? If so it will need a spacer of some sort...

the slotted stud has to be slided in the sheet metal, depending on your seats there are holes or not.

Is this on your W111? If so, I tried mounting headrests on my seats that were not originally equipped for them. It didn't turn out well and now I have removed them. Not sure if the frames are a bit different on these cars?

What problem did you have?  I've secured mine to the top but the cover attaches to where the lowered rivet point is... So mine are loose here at the moment. I'm not really sure how to address this bit?? I haven't put holes in the top yet as I won't do this until the cover is on perfectly.

How's the project going? Did yours have the original leather/vinyl? I think I'll do the pagoda interior while this is all fresh in my mind even though it needs a paint job... I think I'll need to use the original leather as a template of how to do it though... And mine was replaced and not done at all well.

The problem I had with mine was that the rear seat panel bulged out because of the vertical supports that were mounted to the frame. Seemed like the supports were not flush enough when mounted and stuck out some. Looked bad.

Mine is a ‘68 and I did not mount the headrests, so maybe it wasn’t done well by the first upholsterer. Now that they are out, all of that looks much better. Something to look out for. Again not sure if seats with the headrests had a different frame. I know some one with a 3.5, and his seats are different. The back panel does not sit quite as deep as mine.

The other reason I took them out is that I really disliked how “large” the headrests looked inside the coupe. Without them, there is a nice open area above the seats and all around.

What do your seat backs look like? Do they have stitching like mine (original but painted)

This weekend I loaded the wagon and trailer with many completed parts including  the front and rear axles and reunited them with their body down at the other place. 

I have the original mbtex seats but the rest is shot. Seats are in remarkably good condition.

Can bring them over if you'd like to see,  I also have a few things I need to check out on a all in one piece 230sl!!! Now that we're out of lockdown...

Blower is sitting on my bench. First go at getting the tiny allan grub screws didn't work so need to rethink that out see how did yours 

Your upholstery is looking good,  you pleased?

I'd love to look at the original trim! Using it as a guide will be invaluable to getting the pagoda right.
I have a long allen key that I can lend you or get it off for you...
I'm pleased with the leather however Wallace's seats look amazing... Mine don't look like that!

It is always very gratifying to do the work yourself and you should be proud of tackling that. I wasn't very confident in my abilities or knowledge and so took it to be done. Luckily for me, that guy was very talented. I feel fortunate to have found someone at that level. He worked out of his garage, but started doing this before I was driving.
