MB 48 volt electrical systems
« on: October 13, 2020, 19:42:53 »
Has anyone gotten any honest feedback on the 48 volt systems in the new MBs ? It has been around for 2 or 3 years now.
No fan belts. Small electric motors power everything.
Is it the future ?

Been driving it for over a year now, about 40k kilometers. You do not know it is there, except I stopped switching off the start-stop function because you do not really feel it like with conventional starter.

No idea it is the future...

Pawel, just curious. What model do you have and what engine ?
I was at the MB dealer looking at a new ML 350.
It's the 48 volt system but with a 4 cyl gas engine.

I have the GLE 450, which is the 3 liter gas 6 cylinder new in-line one. Runs very nice.

Beauty, Pawel. I like the new body design, very sleek.
Back to the good old straight six like the 113s.
In the US I see many GLE 350s. They have the turbo 4 cyl engines.
It's a bit underpowered for that heavy truck I think and certainly not cheap.
Thanks,

Yes, I like this car, happy to have the opportunity to drive it. It runs really well. MBUX works well too - understands what you want from it 95% of the time. I am driving quite a lot these days and I really appreciate it. I had ML 350 (diesel V6) before that - loved that car. But the new one is much better. I ordered it before it was officially on price list.
