Tom, good advice! I took my 230 to my expert mechanic Nico a few weeks ago for a pre-trip checkup. New oil, changed the brake fluid (don't want to mess with faulty brakes on those mountain twisties), and everything checked out fine. Just good to have that peace of mind. Glad you did the same and averted potential disaster.

I'll be bringing my oldest daughter, Hailey, along for this trip. She just graduated from university and is excited to return to Europe and see Austria. Reminded me of when you brought your girls along for these trips several years ago. Looking forward to the ride!

Dear Pagoda Euro Event Attendees ,

Less then 2 weeks before we meet up in Austria / Tirol , we have some last minute program changes.
Peter made a couple of beautiful tours and we have very nice places to visit , avoiding the general busy touristic roads and area it’s is not a easy task , but you will not be disappointed.
But besides touring and driving we also have time to relax and have some fun .  So we have a small contest on the side, a “ Concours d’Elegance “ in the traditional outfits from the region we visit .
With great prices to be won !
So guys and girls dress up and make an effort so we will have ourselves a great Tyrolean Evening.

Many of us start their travels to Seefeld a few day earlier and we heard there are some of you that meet up already on the way over . Great to see some convoys going south to the mountains.

Furthermore we hope every one has taking care of their car's . Please make sure your brakes and shocks are in good order , since we will be driving in the mountains. .

We will get back to you if there are more things to share .

Stay safe and healthy !

Best regards from us and counting the days .

Rick,

For those of us who don't normally keep a few pair of lederhosen in our closets, can you explain the comment about "traditional outfits?" What exactly are those? Some guidance on what we should wear, please! Is there a "Lederhosen-R-Us" store in the Netherlands?

Even if there is, you can trust me, nobody wants to see my sun-starved legs (sunglasses may be required)!

Cheers,

Martijn passed along to me this site where you can buy a "digital vignette," which covers the national road tax and allows your car to pass through any toll booths in Austria. It costs EUR 14.95 for a 10-day pass. Once you pay online, you get the pass via email and your car is registered within minutes.

From the Austrian vignette website:

Vignettes are required for all vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, driving on motorways and expressways across Austria. Upon placing your order, a digital vignette will be linked to your number plate. This means that your number plate has been registered in the Austrian database and, hence, will automatically be recognized by any barrier at any toll booth. This means that one can choose any toll lane at any toll station and the barriers will open automatically. Moreover, another advantage is the fact that during inspections, it can be quickly assessed whether you have purchased a digital vignette or not.

I'm not sure if we'll be passing through any toll booths, but we figure it's better to be prepared than face a fine if stopped by Austria's finest.

This is the vignette website in Dutch: https://vignetoostenrijk.nl

This is the English version: https://vignette-austria.co.uk

Happy Motoring and see you all Thursday!

Also, just FYI, here is the website with the latest COVID-related rules on entering Austria.  Basically, if you have been fully vaccinated there's no problem.

If you are not vaccinated, you need to show a negative COVID test AND register online for pre-travel clearance if you are not from a designated "safe country." Countries not on the safe list include the USA and the UK. In addition, you have to self-quarantine for at least five days.

Hopefully, we're all vaccinated.

https://www.austria.info/en/service-and-facts/coronavirus-information/entry-regulations

More details are on the website.

If you are travelling through and overnighting in Germany to or from Austria, you might also want to read that country's COVID rules:

https://www.bundesgesundheitsministerium.de/en/service/gesetze-und-verordnungen/guv-19-lp/coronaeinreisev/coronaeinreisev-en.html

If you have been in a high-risk country in the past 10 days before arrival, you need to register online.

Good luck and safe travels,

Brian

Brian

Hi,
the official price for a 10-day vignette in Austria is 9,50€ (digital or on paper) but can vary from different Internet broker up to 20€.
This is the official web site where you can buy it for 9,50€: https://shop.asfinag.at/en/toll-products/digital-toll-sticker/01-10-tagesvignette-pkw-2021/

ASFINAG Service GmbH and ASFINAG Alpenstraßen GmbH are responsible for the operational management of motorways and expressways.

We departed today… through Belgium (eating some Belgian Frites), Germany to Vianden, Luxemburg. Car parked nicely at the hotel parking, locking in a 911 Targa. The village is still suffering from the floods earlier this summer…

Hi,
one remark about buying a digital vignette today or in the next days:

When you try to order one to will be asked if you are a "consumer" or a "company".
If your answer is "consumer" your first possible validity date starts in 18 days, means after our event. If your answer is "company" you can choose the right dates.

Why? See FAQ or ... "consumer rights"
"Why is the digital vignette valid from the 18th day after purchase at the earliest when purchased in the Webshop?
For consumers, the digital vignette or the digital section toll annual card cannot be used immediately after purchase. This also means, however, that you can edit your product before the start of the validity period without having to give any reasons (registration number, validity period).
This restriction does not apply to companies. The reason for this is that, according to the European Consumer Protection Directive, consumers have the right to withdraw from the online purchase of a product or service within 14 days. As this withdrawal is possible by e-mail and by post, a further three days are allowed for cancellation by post until arrival at ASFINAG."

That means if you choose "consumer" you have all rights but no posibilities and if you choose "company" you have no rights but all posibilties.

If you purchase the vignette at the link I provided below, you can buy it as a consumer and set the dates. There is a disclaimer/warning before you purchase in which you agree that by purchasing it you are giving up your right to withdraw from the purchase within 14 days. I bought my 10-day vignette and set the effective date for 22 September.
