Auto Gearbox repair kit or overhaul
« on: September 11, 2020, 01:03:41 »
Hi all,

Has anyone done an overhaul for your auto gearbox? My auto gearbox slips sometimes & also judders. Believe the juddering is due to the propeller shaft coupling that needs to be changed. I also have a jerk every time i go from neutral to drive.

If you have done a gearbox overhaul, would you have a list of parts that you changed or bought a repair kit.

Thanks
Mohan
Cheers,
Mohan

Have you tried oil change and tuning the transmission? Perhaps try this first.
Please remember that in these cars if idle is wrong, gear shifts may be wrong too. It is interconnected.

Idle is not high. At times it is as i have a leak in the master pump. When i press the brakes, i hear air noises. That will be rectified once she goes in for the gearbox.

By tuning I meant checking/adjusting the correct pressure in the gearbox.

If you press the brake and hear air noise, your booster may be leaking, which is affecting the vacuum in the manifold, which is affecting how gearbox operates. So probably the booster may need to be checked/fixed first.

How did the old oil look like? Smelled like?

I am not an expert - perhaps your gearbox is indeed up for overhaul and slipping on start may be a clear symptom of that - I am not sure.

There are quite a few things I would check before calling the gearbox deceased. The Correct operation of the three position solenoid Would be the first.  This is well documented here.
The control pressure would be the next along with idle speed and correct adjustment of the idle switch.
