Anyone changed door gaskets?
« on: August 19, 2020, 19:04:31 »
Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has changed door gaskets with the doors on.  My doors are under the car right now and I am thinking about hanging them bare to get them out of the way.  Can I get the door gaskets on after they are hung or should I do them first?

I replaced my door gaskets without removing the doors.  It's one of the first things I did when I purchased the car 11 years ago and I don't recall it being especially difficult.

Hi Pat,
I have done it both ways and found it much easier with the door lying horizontal because the seal doesn't sag downward.
With the doors on, I start with the two lower corners to get them correctly situated, then the upper corners and then the rest. It is best to do only a small stretch at a time as recommended by 3M. If you have aftermarkets you may have to push/pull a bit for the drain holes in the bottom to line up.
All of that is easier with the door off and cleaning up excess glue is also easier.
