Is there something missing?
« on: July 03, 2020, 14:06:35 »
I just noticed this on left (from driver's POV) front of engine.  The arrow is pointing at a threaded hole.  Where does this lead to?  Oil pan?  Is this normally empty, and if not what goes in there?

TIA
Hans

It's an empty, un-used and un-threaded hole on our cars. It could be a blank hole possibly used on other models or a fixture hole used for the original manufacturing of the cylinder head.

Joe, thank you for the quick reply.  This is at the bottom of the engine.  I am not sure I follow your comment re the cylinder head.

Ok, I guess I did not scroll down far enough.  That blank hole on the oil pan is for cars with power steering. It is one of the attachment points for the power steering pump bracket. Apparently you car has no power steering?

Awesome - that explains it.

Joe, you are correct my car did not have power steering until recently. Parking was a real workout.  I had a Japanese Electrical unit retrofitted this winter which makes a world of difference.  It is electric and works by providing variable, speed dependent assist.  I do not much about it, but am happy to find out more from the shop that fitted it.

It's not a great picture Hans but this confirms Joe's "diagnosis". My car is also a 1963.

Peter, since you also have a '63, could you have a look at your gasoline evaporation tank and vent in the trunk and if possible post some photos?  I am missing a rubber end piece to the vent and there are 2 options in EPC.  I want to order the correct one.  This might be a "earlier version" type of thing, or perhaps the evaporation tank design changed?  I am getting the occasional gasoline smell in the cockpit.
