Original Wiper blades wanted
« on: May 21, 2020, 17:02:24 »
Hi,

Does anyone have any original wiper blades for a '71 280 sl for sale or know where I could source them?

Currently, I have a set i purchased from bud's benz and they work great but I would prefer to have an original set being the car is highly original.

Do you need the wiper arms, the blade holders or the rubber inserts or ? For your car you would need the satin chrome.

This is what i'm looking for. Just felt like this is a lot of money.

What's sad is that these actually sold....that means.some fool paid $300 for a set of wipers.  Now every Tom, Dick, and Harry will try to sell theirs for the same amount or even more.  This is how things, cars in particular, end up pricing themselves out of existence.

If the guy bought these for a Pagoda, he got taken.  Incorrect.

The other two pair Arct1k posted are replacements. They are slightly different than the original blades. Notice the "pin" on the sides where the hinge is.

Always keep your originals if you still have them.  You can then find some modern rubber inserts with a profile close enough to work fine. Replace the rubber inserts and for a few dollars you are done!

Joe, where were you with this excellent advice in 1993? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 At that time wiper blades were just wiper blades 🤣

Little bit off wiper blades abut spot on for keeping original things that you take off the car.....  When I bought my first Pagoda and it had a modern radio in it, I pulled it out and threw it away to replace it with a correct Becker for the year 1969.  May as well chuck out the automated aerial too as no 40 year old car woud have an aerial that went up when you turned the radio on would it?   DOH.

The blades posted by Arct1k are incorrect, not only because of the pins. Even if they had no visible pins, the would be incorrect for a '71 280SL. The correct blades for that are the satin 'skeletonized' blades. Discussion and pictures here:

I believe that the original blades did not say "BOSCH" on them. They only had the BOSCH logo. I just checked mine. Here's a picture of my original blades from my 69 280SL. But I have to ask, who looks at wiper blades??????
