rubberized motor mounts

Does anybody know the difference between the part 180 223 09 12 and 180 223 10 12 ? I get conflicting answer from the suppliers , some say 09 is left and right some say use 10 on r and 09 on left . There seems to be a lot of different motor mounts  . PLEASE HELP . Thanks , Paul

Interesting. I just looked at the early 250 SL parts book and it lists 180 223 10 12 as the only part number for the engine mount, and it lists that you need two of them. So not directional per this part book. Will have a look at the others in a bit. Different versions would have different numbers, but still thought they were non-directional.

I looked at the later books and the part number for the late 250 SL and the early 280 SL is the same as shown. The later parts books only show a kit for the motor mount, with no separate part number listed for the mount itself.

Version A of the 230 SL parts book lists 127 220 03 30 as the motor mount.
Version B lists 127 220 04 30 as an alternative motor mount for cars that will see duty on bad roads
Version C shows the final update to 180 223 10 12 - no chassis number given for the switch.

Because of the problem’s others had with aftermarket motor mounts, I recently bought a motor mount kit from the classic center for my 230 sl. It comes with some hardware. Both mounts, left and right are the same. I am told it is a replacement set for earlier styles.  We had quiet some discussions about it in recent posts.  Part # for the kit is 110-220-02-17.

I replaced my left and right engine mounts 2 years ago for my early 280sl.  I bought the parts from local MB Dealer.

180 223 09 12  (left side)
180 223 10 12  (right side)

Hello guys, I have the same problem . Db depot website have on stock a kit of 2 oem mounts (1802231012) (1219870339) and also have on stock another mount 1802231012 and is written in brackets that this mount is used on left and right side for the W113 . This single mount have a red dot . Which one is the correct set to buy?

As stated above I replaced mine with OEM two years ago. When I pulled the old ones out they were both exactly the same and matched the right side OEM version. Only one had a single red dot. The other had nothing. Maybe worn off?🤷‍♂️ I don’t know if the original mechanic screwed up and put right side ones in by accident or if it really mattered.

There was a discussion here last year that someone suggested MB/others to moved to a single part number that will work on either side. I’m not sure if it was verified. You would have to search for the thread.

I ran into this recently.  What I am told, is that they have gone to a single mount number.  1802231012  The mounts were virtually the same, but one supplier suggested that one side may have been made of a slightly different material for vibration, and the other slightly harder as the engine "torques" on one, and "pulls" on the other during acceleration.  The newest rubber can either accomplish both goals at one time, or there was not enough demand to make two separate parts with a minor difference.  I am sure you can get both sides if you really wanted, but I don't know if it is necessary.

Here is a picture of 2 old mounts, and 2 new ones (the new ones are the same part number).  You can see one of the old mounts is "Crushed" much more than the other.  Plus the shorter one was split in half.  Mercedes uses the underside bolt and large washer on the mounts so that even if they split in half, the motor won't torque off the car.

After replacing the mounts, including the trans, the fan sat in the middle of the fan shroud, and the driveline lined up again.  It was also a much smoother feeling engine and drive.  They are often neglected and forgotten, these mounts.

The strange thing is my two “righties” were installed in 2000. Did they move to a single part number 20 years ago? If so how did I buy the left and right versions (see part numbers above) at local dealer in 2018? NOS?

Good insight, its true, you would think if they were available 2 years ago, they would have been available 20 years ago. 

I think there are a few possible answers.  One is that 20 years ago, someone knew they could get away with it, one was on backorder, so they just go the car out the door faster.

Another possible answer is that I know that sometimes I have had to wait for parts because they are waiting to do a run of said parts.  So my options are to wait, or install what's available.  That decision should be made by the customer, but sometimes it is made by the installer if they feel there is no difference except getting your car back to you sooner.  Maybe 20 years ago they were out, then someone found old stock, or a new run was done, then 2 years ago they were both available.  I looked  six months ago and could only find the one side.  Who knows if it will change again in the future!

I believe, as Jonny mentioned, they had part numbers for bad roads, and normal use, then an updated one.  Perhaps they just found a new material that did the job of both.

What is the first benefit that you notice after replacing the mounts? Mine looks terrible. The engine doesn’t shake too much but I think they have very low life left. They are not black anymore but grey . Probably still
The original one.
Due to the fact that the new mounts are thicker, there will be a problem for the engine that will seat higher in the engine bay?
I guess it will come back to the original position

Mauro,

A1102200217 is the correct P/N for your 250SL.  It comes as a set now. It should correct any height difference. I would also replace the sub frame mounts if they haven%u2019t been done. I would also use genuine Mercedes mounts as they are like no other!

Guys what is the difference between oem motor mounts and Mercedes motor mounts ? I just bought from mbclassic.de the oem series for motor mounts and I wanted to know if the quality is as similar as possible to mercedes mounts . Is it the same ?

I bought some reproduction mounts from MBclassics....Meyle brand, but one of them did not fit so I bought the OEM versions.

These fitted no problem. Some posters on here have said the Meyle mounts fail quickly.
