blower motor on W113 and W111
« on: March 09, 2020, 12:16:15 »
My '64 230SL has always had a weak blower motor and I thought that it was normal in the pagodas but I just bought a '66 W111 250SE coupe and the blower motor sounds a lot stronger.  Did they have different blower motors or is there potentially a problem with the 230SL?
Thanks for any help

I assume you are referring to the heater blower motor.  Some have used this replacement.  FASCO DC135

http://www.smarter.com/fasco/se--qq-motor%2Bdc%2B12%2Bvolt--mf-21813.html

Do a search on this site using "DC135" and you will find some posts about this fan.

Hi,
afaik all Pagodas had the same heater blower motor (A 00 083 513 02 ). Problem of this motor is the sintered bearing with oil felt. After 50 years or earlier everything is dry and the motor has a lot of work to rotate the blower wheels and it will fail.
Some people changed this with self-lubricating bearings (see att. pdf) or another (e.g. Fasco DC135) blower motor.
One problem with this Fasco motor: Much higher current consumption can cause problems with the switch.

P.S. I just had look in the spare part list of a W111/250SE and I assume that a W113 heater blower motor should produce much more air than a W111 blower.

That's great information!
I think I'll pull mine and bench test it and repair with bearings. If this does not make it good enough then I'll investigate the Fasco DC135.  (The link for the Fasco above doesn't seem to work for me.)
Thanks again

I like the idea of putting the bearings in but I need to make the bearing housing (made in turned metal) ... has anyone got a schematic for this?
I might also try to simply replace the sintered bearings... not sure if these are easy to get??

Thanks again for any help

btw I've attached a translated version (in English), its not a brilliant translation but it is good enough.

Hi,
there is a member of Pagodentreff who manufactures these bearing housings. I've asked him for details but he has none but he sells these housings worldwide.
His name is Peter (coca-light in Pagodentreff.de).

Hi,
I've asked him and he has some left or can produce them very soon, no problem at all.
I will ask him for his private email address so you can connect him directly.

Hi Joe
I'm in Northcote so if you and Peter are happy with this you can save on postage and get everything shipped together to my place.

Fantastic Col, I'm in Ivanhoe, we could share the postage cost. Be good to see your car and catch up though in this covid virus world we may all be locked down soon!!!
