Hey!  New to the forum, looking for a 000 158 2085 distributor cap cover and a 000 158 1185 coil cover.  just wondering if anyone has any spares left over.  Even in poor shape is ok.

bjdg- welcome to the group (see this is post no 1) - what car do you have? The coil cover was not used on the 113 until late in the run of the 280 SL. It is almost at the end - the last issue of Pagoda has the full listing

The coil cover was used starting at VIN ending 22497
The distributor cover was used for cars with ignition suppression beginning at VIN ending 2663
Add to all cars starting at VIN ending 3113

The 300 site mentioned does have some rare stuff, they had a listing for the coil cover.

Bjdg, if you still feel like buying the ignition coil cover, A 000 158 11 85, it is available at MB dealers, in my geography for about $65 + VAT.

Distributor cover is much more rare.

Do you mind sharing the price as I have no idea of value?

Shipped from Canada, $130.00 ( was in good condition, not great condition).
It still surprises me as to how many cars are missing this cap, takes a total 90 seconds to re-install .

I guess a lot of Pagodas don’t have it as i believe they were only on the later cars from ‘69 built cars onwards.

...and I have talked to a few mechanics who, back in the day, simply didnt bother putting them back on. The push in pins can be hard to engage but not the most difficult thing to manage.
I guess they possibly forgot half the time after adjusting the points. Not too many original MB owners back in the day would bother looking under the hood after a service I gather.

If you have one that is scuffed up I refurbished mine by wet sanding it with 1000 grit paper and carefully hitting it with a heat gun to melt the surface a touch.   I think the caps are another good example of a band-aid or progression repair.  With the advent of Transistorized ignition the higher firing voltages available as well as more resistance in the wire set they most likely had arcing on the outside of the cap so they put a little rain hat on it to keep it dry.  Within a couple years all Bosch 6 cylinder caps were of a larger diameter which spread the towers further apart.  Problem solved.

I have a plastic snap version I would part with. I have not examined it in a bit but remember it being in nice shape. PM me if interested.
