Hello Pagoda friends,

A while ago I had to disassemble my Frigiking A/C cassette to clean it and I decided to re-chrome the air vents.
In order to do so, I had to remove the pins that move the vents from left to right and one of them got broke. So I had to fix it!
Once I couldn't buy them new, nor glue them, I decided to 3D print them. Which I did.
Please let me know if you want a copy of the 3D file for such pins (DWG format).
In the end I printed 3 pins and they work properly and look perfect!
Some pictures attached:
a. The vent (before re-chrome);
b. One of the pins removed without problem;
c. Draft print of the pin and the the fin that directs the air flow linked together;
d. pdf of the pin.
Please note that I also have a draft version of the fin but I never reprinted once it was not good enough.

Hope someone adds this to the the "members" side of the tech manual. Great thinking to go that route.

The Tech Manual is open to all Full Members to use and to also add or amend to its content.

You can play in the sand box area first to feel comfortable to go live with amendments or additions. We as a whole Group rely on everyong putting in some effort whether it be doing some Admin or adding to the knowledge of the Technical Manual so please feel free to add it to the Manual.

I am struggling finding a place ,getting my frigiking vents rechromed.

Are you satisfied with the results of your rechrome ? / May i ask about the costs?

Hi Mark,
Chrome over plastic is not very common.
I searched a lot and eventually found a small company that does it.
Was it perfect? No. Just 7/10.
I guess they neglected the removal of the previous coat of chrome... but not sure.
However, much better than before.
I think I have paid 100€ for the 3 vents and shipping.

I was able to disassemble my vents without doing any unrepairable damage. I sent them to www.chrometechusa.com. I can't remember how long it took them to do the chroming (I believe it was a couple of months) but they did a great job. When I reassembled them they looked great! It's been at least a couple of years, so I'm not sure if this company is still around. Good luck, Chumps

Francisco,

I am impressed with your ability to reproduce the pin in photo b.

I have disassembled the vent vertical vanes from the housing, but cannot figure out how to separate that pin/control knob from the vertical vane it is attached to.

I keep trying to spread the two “arms” from the vane but without success. How did you get that done?

Take a hobby knife and slice the fingers off the side of the piece and then take a pliers and twist the knob off.

Hi,
I guess in some cases you will find out that the pin is glued to the fin.
In such cases, you will have do "brake the bond".
Try vinegar.
Try heat.
All things moderately.
I have to confess I have broken one pin when removing it, hence the need to reproduce it.

I worked the bond as you said with a small sharp knife to separate the edges and lifted the pin out. Whew.
Part of the journey of restoring these gems is how a seemingly simple process often becomes a full on challenge.
