Alloy Wheels

I have 6x14 Fuchs Alloys on my 280SL. I was reading in the tech section that "it is assumed" an adapter was fitted by the factory to mount the spare on the post in the trunk.
I do not have this, as the alloys were added later by a P/O. Does anybody know for a fact that something like this was available, does someone have one, can someone post a picture?

Hello Mike,

Original factory alumin(i)um wheel cars can be distinguished with the code 64/0 on the data card.

Yes, and AFAIK these ones had a slightly different bracket for the spare wheel in the trunk, but I cannot confirm for sure right now.
(Was desperately seeking in the parts lists but could not yet find the alloy wheel replacement for the regular "Erstzradhalter" (spare wheel carrier) A113 890 0081  :-[

Thank you Achim. I am aware of the option code. My car was not ordered with alloys from the factory. As far as I recall, the post in the trunk is welded to the floor??? If there was a different one from the factory, it would be hard to change. What I was reading was about an "adapter".

Mike I believe it’s actually bolted to the floor. I took mine out to refinish when I did my trunk.

I need one too.  If we can get dimensions you can stop up and we can knock a couple out.  Have lathe, TIG milling machine etc.  A picture of the underside of the top bit would be really helpful.

If memory serves me well, the spare steel wheel was mounted on the post with the outside down and the inside up. It looks like from the picture, that the alloy wheel was mounted the other way around. I assume, the spare wheel cover will no longer work then? Anybody here with an alloy spare in the trunk?

I will also go to the large Classic Messe in Essen, Germany in late March, and I will look out for one. Let you know if I find one and where to buy it. :)

I made one of these years ago. Simple to make out of steel stock, bolts in/out. Cover no longer works

Why does the cover no longer work?  The cover would be specific to the tire size, not the wheel I would think...  Or is it because the cover is secured to the wheel?

Remember the cover is also a tool bag with a zip. The steelies go upside down in order to facilitate the tool bag inside the rim, where as the ally rims are mounted face up, in the boot.
Therefore the cover might fit,  but you sacrifice the tool bag space.

Unfortunately, I think the best picture, I have seen up to now, is the one already posted above in this thread. But maybe someone has some more?

Actually the drawing I linked to above is for the alloy rim. The one for the standard steel rims are shorter and flatter as you also write.

Mercedes probably gave it a bit more thought than you credit them.
The ally rims are stowed face up, in order to prevent any damage to the face, thus the long discussion about the higher/longer mounting.
