Cruise control
« on: August 11, 2019, 22:18:40 »
I installed a cruise control unit in my Pagoda. It's similar to the one Jim Villers wrote about in Pagoda World a few years ago. One difference is that mine is electrically-powered, instead of vaccum-powered:

Another difference is that my car is automatic, not manual, so I had to install a speed sensor. I used a unit from Sailes in the UK that's specifically intended for older Mercedes, mounted on the speedo head:

I've done some initial testing and it seems to work well. I'm looking forward to making good use of it on my way to the Meeting of the Clans II in a couple of weeks.

cool.

show us some pictures of it installed?  The 1st link not very helpful as far as what exact one you ordered and what it looks like mounted.  On the turn signal stalk?  ON the dash somewhere?

Here's a few pictures.

The actuation unit (a Rostra 250-1223, which I wrapped in black rubber) sits by the coolant overflow tank. The wiring is routed along the firewall, behind the engine and into the cabin through the grommet that lets in the tach cable.

The actuation cable comes around to the top of the intake manifold, by the CSS. Its end is attached to one of the levers on the throttle rod. The control switch sits just in front of the console, behind the shift lever. No holes drilled.

Hi,
I would first like to say that sedan cars (W108/109, W114/115) in those days had an optional cruise control, afaik Pagodas never.
Among other things it was realized with
- a cruise control switch piggybacked onto the steering column switch and a bigger rubber coverage, (both still available at MB)
  (see https://www.strichacht-forum.de/read.php?1,115165)
- a vaccum pump (compared to this one in blue: http://w113.eu/geschlossen/Optimierungen/Tempomat.htm)
- a hall sensor (e.g. from VDO, mentioned in the link above) pluged-in between speedo and speedo cable and
- a control unit (e.g. Waeco MS50, mentioned in the link above).
All this equiment fits - more or less invisible - in our cars and works very well.
