UK Tyres What do people fit?
« on: July 04, 2019, 11:10:03 »
Hi I read the thread on tyre sizes. My tyres are old but with tons of tread. Last MOT's all advise tyres are changed, due to cracking.
I am curious what people are fitting.
More modern tyres or are you keeping it old school.

thank you

There are loads of posts about tyres.
if you have hubcaps, and want traditional ridges on the outside,it is either the Michelin or cheaper vredstein, both usually available from longstone or vintage tyres.

Mr Ferns suggested I put Blockley tyres on mine after years with Michelin MXVs

Much cheaper and v happy with how they drive

A test conducted on a rear engine Porsche has little relevance for us.

What size did you go for?  I note people try different sizes, or did you go like-for-like?

thanks

I had Michelin 185 R14 90H MXV, with ridge , but changed to Vredestein Sprint Classic 185/80 R14 90H (with Ridge) about 18 months ago. Both these are I believe similar to the original size fitted  in 1967.

The Vredestein are about 60% of the cost of the Michelin.
I have since done 4000 miles mainly touring France and Netherlands & Germany without any problems.

Hope this helps

Looking at a set of thin white walls from north hants tyres, not too sure if they'll be too blingy but can always turn them inside out if necessary.

I have spoken to many people and they also said that the whitewalls are blingy and not suitable.

However, I am also tempted. My car is dark blue and can look very old-fashioned and a bit dull.  I feel that the addition of white-walls might make my car look a little more 60's ?

It would be nice to see what they look like, when you are done!

I put on the Vredestein 185/14 which is the same size as the originals original tires were.  They have preformed well for the last 3 years. I believe this is a Dutch company and should be available in the UK.

I have Hankooks and I am very happy with them.
Here they say Verdestein is a very pleasant discovey of the last few years - very good quality tyres for a moderate price.
I saw new G-class at the dealer recently with Hankooks on her...
