Bosch to Reproduce Pagoda Headlights
« on: June 20, 2019, 11:08:32 »
Don't remember having seen this before.  Bosch press release posted on the Early S website announces that headlights for 911/912 will be reproduced and will be followed by headlights for Pagodas. FYI:

Great picture of a Borgward there.  I think those taillights are Hella, not Bosch, but I could be wrong....

I'm confused.  Don't these already have the Bosche logo on them?

https://vintageeuroparts.com/pair-of-euro-style-headlights-w-bosch-lens-with-bulbs-for-mercedes-230sl-250sl-280sl-w113.html

Or is the article referring to the USA headlights?

On those headlights, the glass lens is Bosch, but the rest of the headlight is reproduction. SLS has a page with the available reproduction units.

That sounds right. The body of the light is made in the Check Republic. Too much regardless of where they're made.

There's money in this stuff, lots of it, or no one would even look at making them.

I'd like to add that the only EU homoligated headlights from the SLS link is reference 282700 which are 100% made in Taiwan.

Do you think they'll make both round and flat lenses?

I'm kinda partial to the flat myself.

I'm pretty sure they won't ever be made, there's already 3 different manufacturers making the round headlights (each their own quality...) The demand for flat is simply too small.

That will rather reduce the value of the four NOS genuine Bosch ones I've been hoarding for years!

If only they'd do the same for fuel pumps...

Looks like they already repop the lenses:

However, be nice if you can buy the whole light w/the flat lenses.

Can someone explain the difference between the two bilux headlights offered in that SLS link? Refs 282600 and 282800?

Thanks

I was curious myself. Certainly it is best to ask them, but I see that they do look different and the key material difference is the main bulb bracket. Theyu could provide a bit better description of what they sell...

Then they have the same set of spare bulbs...

The differences between the three aftermarket lamps are all described - but only in German. Try the Google translator:
https://www.sls-hh-shop.de/main/de/82-beleuchtung-scheibenwischer-82-r-hauptscheinwerfer-nachfertigungen-bersicht-c-3_2342_4153

I have seen 282600 and it is very well made and quite close to the Bosch lamps. It does not have the Bosch logo on the glass but that can be exchanged with the original one if you have it:

Thank you Alfred!

I saw this comparison picture, but I never got to the description for some reason... language would not be an issue if I could find it.

Now I see how it works (a very important point for me): when you switch to English, you lose it. I went to that place that you are showing being in English language. The picture is there, but the description is not. Description is there only under German language.

Thanks for taking time to show this!

So the ones with "GBC" on the lens are the ones to get?

" Far right: the latest / most recent reproduction with the greatest similarity to the Bosch original, apart from the glass inscription "GBC". SLS 282600."

In another thread we are talking Euro "flat" vs "bubble" lens headlight and it seems the original flat lenses were unique to the Halogen versions and vice versa. These Halogen versions are shown with bubble lenses?

...The body of the light is made in the Czech Republic...

When my car was restored 1999-2000, I replaced all the lighting. It wasn't as costly then as it is now, but of course nothing was.

The BOSCH boxes indicated that these OEM Bosch replacements were made in the Czech Republic. Not long after, according to my Bosch source, they sold the factory and that lighting factory to some other company. I think they were available for some time after that.
